A Summary of Our Last Session Meeting – Sunday, December 11, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Cove’s session met on Sunday, December 11, at 9:00 a.m., with five ruling elders present. After the moderator opened with prayer, the session received the minutes from the session meeting of November 13. We also received and discussed the pastor’s report for November. The pastor’s report included the following information:
  • During the month of November, the pastor led the following funeral services:
    • November 21 - Goldie Baly
  • During the month of November, the pastor led the following wedding services:
    • November 4 - Alboszta-Summers Wedding
  • I took communion to Goldie Baly on November 17. I served 4 people.
  • We celebrated communion on November 27 and served 67. We’re also serving communion after the service. The numbers are as follows:
    • November 6 - 0
    • November 13 - 8
    • November 20 - 5
  • In the Tuesday Study, I’m leading a series on Luke/Acts.
The session received and discussed the following committee reports:
  • Christian Growth –  It was reported that the children are ready for our annual Christmas program this morning.
  • Worship – no report
  • Outreach – no report
  • Membership – The following was reported:
    • The congregation appreciated the Striplight Theatre performance, and we look forward to working with them in the future.
    • We thank Sue Willson for making the bread for communion.
    • We need to serve our shut-ins communion during the month of December.
    • The choir performed at the Weirton Geriatric Center.
    • At the choir Christmas party, December 9, gifts were given to Sue Willson, director of the bell choir; Ray Seifert, director of the vocal choir; and Janice Torrance, our organist.
    • Our Project Christmas Smile was celebrated on Saturday, December 10.
    • We’re still looking for volunteers to chaperone the scouts on Wednesday evening.
The session discussed the following items of old business:
  • Contact with The Children’s Academy – The relationship between the church and The Children’s Academy is good.
  • Congregational Meeting to Elect Officers - The congregation met on Sunday, November 27 to elect ruling elders, deacons and trustees.
  • Consideration of Members Rolls – Pastor Rudiger will write a letter on behalf of the session to those members who were contacted and indicated that they were regularly attending other congregations. 
  • Christmas Eve Service – The service is set for 7:00 p.m.
The session discussed the following items of new business:
  • 2017 Budget – A proposed budget for 2017 was sent to the deacons and trustees for comment. Since the trustees are scheduled to meet on Monday, December 12 and may have questions or comments coming from the meeting, session will delay officially approving the budget until after their meeting.
  • Consideration of Sue Baldt for membership – The following was moved: Cove receive Sue Baldt into the membership of Cove Presbyterian Church by profession of faith. The motion was seconded, discussed and carried. 
  • Scheduling Communion for 2017  – The following was moved: Cove celebrate communion as a congregation on the following dates:
    • January 22
    • February 26
    • March 26
    • April 13 – Maundy Thursday
    • May 28
    • June 25
    • July 23
    • August 27
    • September 17
    • October 1 – World Communion Sunday
    • October 29
    • November 26
    • December 24 (during the worship service)
    • December 25
The motion was seconded, discussed and carried.
  • Scheduling a Joint Board Meeting – The following was moved: The session scheduled a joint meeting of the boards (session, deacons, trustees, and endowment committee) for after worship on February 12. The motion was seconded, discussed and carried. 
  • Scheduling the Annual Meeting – The following was moved: The Cove congregation meet on January 22. The motion was seconded, discussed and carried. 
  • Scheduling the Ordination and Installation of Officers – The following was moved: We’ll ordain and/or install new officers on Sunday, January 12. Those who are able to attend on that particular Sunday will be ordained and installed as soon as possible after that date. The motion was seconded, discussed and carried. 
  • Consideration and Revision of the Business Plan - Session set-up a committee to consider the business plan. Different groups within the church will have the opportunity to offer suggestions.
Having no more business, the meeting was adjourned and closed with prayer. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 8, at 9:00 a.m.
