PRAYER REQUESTED FOR MOONEY FAMILY: It is with both sadness and resurrection hope that we report the death of the Rev. Edward R. “Ed” Mooney, 93, who went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018. The Honorably Retired Rev. Mooney faithfully served several congregations in our Presbytery during his lifetime. He was named Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville, OH. He is survived by three sons and five grandchildren. [When we receive any further info, we’ll put it out.]

PRESBYTERIAN FRIENDS will have a gathering on April 15th, and we would like to invite everyone to join us. This time we have a guest speaker coming. Cheryl Buxamusa, a woman that knew Corrie ten Boom, will be doing a Dramatic Portrayal of Corrie ten Boom. "CREATED TO SHINE!" Upper Ohio Valley Presbyterian Women's Spring Gathering is Saturday April 21, 2018, at Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, 42072 Oak Ridge Road, Wellsville, OH 43968. Brunch and Registration begin at 9:00 a.m. Worship, meeting, and speaker from "The Shack" to follow. Bring donations for The Shack.
Directions: Take Rt. 7 to Wellsville, Ohio; get off at the St. Rt. 39 exit, go West on 39 two miles then turn onto Oak Ridge Road, and the church is at the end of the road.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN CHURCHWIDE: Arise, Shine Your Light Has Come! The 2018 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women will be held at the Galt House in Louisville, on August 2-5, 2018. Full registration is $425.00. Rooms start at $144.00 per night (you can put up to four people per room). Remember, we only get together like this every third year, and there is a lot being offered.
PS: The Synod of the Trinity is offering scholarship money to help those that want to attend Churchwide. $400.00 is available to UOVP PW, and the only stipulation is that it is not used for the Moderator or the voting delegates. So YOU qualify! All you need to do is send a letter to UOVP PW moderator Judy Miller, at 49317 Eagle Drive, East Liverpool, OH 43920, concerning your interest, and the money will be divided equally between those that apply. Judy must receive your letter by April 15, 2018, and those receiving the scholarship will be announced at the Spring Gathering on April 21st.

LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GROW YOUR CHURCH? The Committee on Ministry, Training and Development Committee, and Evangelism and New Church Development Committee invite all congregational members and congregations of Upper Ohio Valley Presbytery to an Evangelism Workshop on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at First Westminster Presbyterian church, 235 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, OH 43952. The Rev. Jason Elliott, Pastor of an active, growing congregation will be the workshop presenter. It is the responsibility of every clerk to see that his or her Minutes Book and Church Register are presented for review each and every year. You, your pastor, or someone you designate needs to be present; however, feel free to attend any meeting on this year’s schedule that is convenient for you. TWO NEW TITLES IN THE BEING REFORMED SERIES FOR ADULTS: Being Reformed is a series of biblically based mini-courses that provide adults with a foundational understanding of the Reformed faith. Each study is written by well-known and respected scholars and addresses its subject from a Reformed theological perspective. There are also helpful suggestions and direction for leaders.

WORLD MISSION INITIATIVE CONFERENCE will be held at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary on April 13-14. This year’s conference theme is “All God’s Children: Justice in God’s Mission.” Workshop leaders have been working on the front lines of mission locally and nationally. They will challenge participants to consider how they can lead congregations to respond biblically and responsibly to justice issues. WE NEED ALTERNATE COMMISSIONERS. Pastors and Clerks of Session, it is now time for sessions to nominate persons to be our presbytery’s ALTERNATE commissioners to the meeting of the 223rd General Assembly, June 16 to June 23, 2018, in St. Louis, MO. We need to elect one alternate minister commissioner and one alternate ruling elder commissioner. Qualified ministers may be nominated by the session he/she moderates, any session if the minister does not moderate a session, or by any standing committee of presbytery. Ministers shall have attended 50% of the stated meetings of presbytery over the previous two year cycle prior to the election. If you have any questions, call our stated clerk. Qualified sessions may nominate one of their ruling elders for alternate ruling elder commissioner. Ruling Elders shall be active in the life of his/her congregation. If you have any questions, please call our stated clerk. An application can be found on our website under Items of Interest. E-mail your nominations for alternate minister commissioner and alternate ruling elder commissioner to the Presbytery Office as soon as possible.

WE NEED AN ALTERNATE Young Adult Advisory Delegate for General Assembly, June 16 – 23, 2018, in St. Louis, MO. If needed, the alternate MUST attend the fullGeneral Assembly meeting for which they apply, and report to the Presbytery. Young adults age 17-23 (at the time of the meeting) are eligible to apply. The General Assembly provides travel and housing. A Presbytery training date will be announced after the commissioners, the youth advisory delegate, and alternates are elected. We will be selecting one YAAD alternate. An application can be found on our website under Items of Interest. Applications must be returned as soon as possible.
